Apply today for the 2024 Luminari Award Scholarship Contest

Do you want to learn more about the world and how to make a positive difference in it? Do you enjoy writing and expressing your ideas? If you are a high school student in the Pittsburgh area in grades 7-11, you have a chance to win an all-expense paid admission to our unique diplomacy program by entering the Luminari Award Scholarship Contest. The deadline is February 15, 2024, so don’t delay! Tell us how you define diplomacy and why is it important to you? Explain how the I Want to be an Ambassador! camp will teach you the skills of everyday diplomacy and how you will use them to contribute to your school and local community.

The Luminari Award is a merit-based award that recognizes students who have a passion for diplomacy, cultural awareness, global affairs, government relations or community service. The winners of the contest will be named Luminari Award Scholars and will get to attend the I Want to be an Ambassador! summer camp in Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C., June 11-19, 2024. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn from experts, meet diplomats, visit embassies and so much more!

To enter the contest, you need to write an essay on one of the topics provided on our website. The essay should be between 500 and 1000 words and should demonstrate your creativity, critical thinking and communication skills. All students may enter the award on their own by submitting their applications and essays directly to us in an easy 1-2-3 process:

  1. Write a one-page essay describing your interest in diplomacy and the ways in which you will benefit from the I Want to be an Ambassador! camp in your daily life.
  2. Fill out the APPLICATION FORM – [Download PDF] and have your parent or legal guardian sign it as well.
  3. Return the completed essay and application form to luminari@luminari.org or mail to: Luminari, P.O. Box 81603, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15217 no later than February 15, 2024.
